Lessons of Darkness – Lessons of Light Sat 4 & Sun 5 December 2021

A two day Winter painting workshop – focusing on darkness and light.
Darkness and light are the dancing ground of the visual arts. Between the staining of canvas and fingers lies the unrealised potential of Painting, the authentic human urge to create. Focusing on the phenomena of the warm and cool polarity of colour, we shall deepen our understanding of the whole poetry of colour through visualizations and observation with prisms. To strengthen our understanding of structure we will playfully explore compositions working with charcoal media to establish balanced and contrasting images developing  these further into painting.

“I am interested in the miracle of being alive, I want to be in the world – I have no agenda. I paint to understand myself in the world…I paint to find myself. Authenticity – it has to be what one is about, I’m trying to get to what I’m about.”

Ian McKeever in conversation with Marjorie Allthorpe-Guyton
